Mites or fleas? & ?? About copper bolusing.

I know I can use ivermectin injected but she is due to kid in a week. What can I use on a heavily pregnant nubian doe?

I have tried DE sprinkled on her but that isn't working.

She has areas around sides wher she obviously bites. 3 other goats are housed with her and don't have this problem.

Also I have a lamancha who has a coat that is lightening. No fish tail but her coat doesn't look great. She could be bred. She has been difficult to follow on heat cycles. Can I copper boluse pregnant does? I have loose minerals but they tend to get damp so I put out a fresh handful daily. Her coat is the only one that looks a bit dull and maybe ratty would be a good description and sort of lightening.

Yes, you can copper bolus pregnant does. I have two years in a row. If you want to make certain that they do have a deficiency, I hear there's a test now (before that, I was under the impression there wasn't one except liver biopsy).

Copper bolusing has gotten rid of lice for me before, as well as helping against internal parasites. If i had to guess, it does sound like they might need some with the faded coats. Mine never got "fish tail" either when they were deficient, just rough, faded coats and sometimes lice in the winter.

Ivermectin is safe for pregnancy. You can also use a permethrin product to get rid of lice. There are dusts and liquids. Use it on all the goats, because even if they aren't super infested, they will all be carrying some...it's just affecting the one goat more than the others. Repeat in about 10 days to get the newly hatched ones. If your goats are copper deficient, it is actually a GOOD thing to copper bolus when they are pregnant, because the kids can be born deficient as well.

Ok will do the copper. Does it matter what kind? I'm looking at ultracruz from amazon. It says "safe use in pregnant or breeding animals has not been proven" which is why I ask.

Since I plan on drinking the milk I'm trying to use as few things as possible yet keep them healthy and strong. So I will probably try to find the powder form of permethrin. Thanks!

Yeah, the babies will need the copper too. Very extreme copper deficiency can lead to loss of motor control that is permanent. I have a doe who became so copper deficient drinking our high sulfur/ iron water that she developed a sway to her walk that never went away. Your water may contribute to a higher need for copper than a goat on someone else's land.

I have started using Ultracruz this year and it seems to do as good a job as the Copasure. The only complaint I have is the bolus itself is a much cheaper quality gelcap and if the weather is very cold, they break extremely easy. I've even had them break in warm weather and I have never had the Copasure break
