"Down" means something slightly different in this context. When somebody says that they have a down goat (or cow, or what have you), it means the animal has laid down and can't or won't get up. This is a HUGE problem, because the longer they stay that way, the less likely they are to EVER get back up - so you need to get them moving as soon as possible.
But all animals lie down for a rest sometimes, then get back up on their own. That is completely normal. Mine have a spot out in the middle of the pasture where they like to lie down all together and chew cud in the afternoon. It's really peaceful.
