From OUR EXPERIENCE ONLY: we do fecal exams on each individual herd member (we do not take a combination) twice a year. The first sample is always taken in March or in one year it was April after the does have kidded. They never have had worms. Lots of reasons for that which are peculiar to our land and situation just as it would be for anyone else. Never the less, we do it to be sure. Even though worms have not been the culprit almost everyone of our girls have had "plops" after kidding...rarely before...in fact I cannot think of it ever happening. We worry about it every year even though we have seen it before. We introduce grain in minute amounts starting 4-5 weeks before due dates and build up to about a pound before kidding. During that time there are no indications that there is any problems. It is always after the kidding and it lasts any where from a few days to several weeks (VERY scary!!) Other than that they are fine. In the past I have given them Probios and even CandD depending on how crazed it made me...but it always was OK. I would personally recommend the fecal first unless you have had a severe worm problem that has been on going. I (and my vet...for what it is worth) feel that dosing with a lot of chemicals right after a 5 month pregnancy that is followed by delivering kids is a huge strain on the goats system. BUT I know we all have our opinions on that subject!!! LOL. Anyway, just a personal experience and as I said a lot depends on YOUR situation...not ours. At least with the fecal you will know if you are really dealing with a worm bloom and whether or not your meds are appropriate to the situation. Best of luck.
