Please be careful in the cold!

Farmer near me "raises show winning sheep" and lost 30-40 sheep in a barn fire the other night. Second one this year. Last one was a 2 mo old puppy in a barn. Looks like they both were using heat lamps. Farmer was using them to keep his water thawed and other was "to keep the puppy warm."

Be careful everyone!

Ditto what nehimama said but also Premier 1 makes a great heat lamp, no way will it catch anything on fire. I use them in plastic barrels for baby goats if it's cold when their born with no problems.
Here is the link to the new 1 this year. The other 1 they carry is orange.

If you use the basic heat lamps put a guard of hardware cloth under them. They sometimes explode and fall into bedding and can cause a fire that way.

And do NOT rely on those FAIL clamps that are attached to them!

Before I posted this I actually wrote the station and "suggested" they do a follow-up on safe methods of keeping animals watered and warm in this weather. Suggested the premier light as they are an IA company.

What I didn't say was showing how the farmer had heat lamps on the GROUND pointed at the water to keep it thawed was irresponsible on both the farmer and the stations part. Kinda like how commercials show cribs with the sides off sometimes. YIKES!

Just don't use heat lamps. They aren't needed.
