Questions about adding buck...

I will be bringing home a ND buck in a few days and I am wondering how to add him to my heard without anyone getting hurt. One of my does is very friendly and the other two are a bit skittish. The whether is also a bit more friendly than the two other does.

When I bring the new buck home (I understand he is stinky right now) should I simply open the gate and put him in the large corral with the girls/boy?

Or should I keep him in a separate yard and introduce him an hour at a time or something. Please advise, thanks, sis

Are you getting him to breed your does? It is always a good idea to quarantine new goats (for health reasons), but a buck may be a little different if you want your does bred this year.

When we brought Man Goat here I just put him in with the does. He chased them a little and then everybody settled down quite nicely. This was a buck I brought in to get everybody bred as quickly as possible so I could then get rid of him though. I had one doe who clearly hated him, but the worse that happened is she would decide he was too close to her and chase him of for a bit.

Once I verify the health of an animal, I just toss them in the mix. I may remove the particularly nasty does for a short amount of time if I don't think the new goat can handle them. You shouldn't have a problem adding a new buck. They are usually the harasser if they are old enough to stink
