If both testicles fit in the band, it is not too late to band them.

I prefer younger than that because if they're living with their sisters or their dams, they can very well be breeding them at that age - including younger sisters as young as 8 weeks old. I prefer it when I can tell who gets to breed to whom and when. I generally remove bucklings from the pen at 10 weeks of age or so, OR band them usually very young. Dairy bucklings are generally banded at a couple days old. My boer bucklings were usually done at 4 or 8 weeks of age, simply because that's the ages at which I caught them to do other stuff to them (vaccines, deworming, coccidia prevention etc)

Some people give tetanus ANTITOXIN (not a true vaccine) at banding. I do not give anything, personally. If they are vaccinated with a TOXOID for tetanus (generally the CDT vaccines are given at 4 and 8 weeks of age or at 6 and 8 weeks of age to young kids) then you shouldn't need to do anything extra.

As to what wormer you'd use in a 4 week old kid, this depends on your parasites you're targeting. If tapeworms are an issue, drugs like valbazen, safeguard/panacur, or zimectrin gold may be of use. If you're going up against barberpole, then something like cydectin, ivermectin, or prohibit will be your best bet. If your problem is not a 'worm' but actually coccidia, then your best bet would be a sulfa drug (sulfadimethoxine), or amprolium (corrid). If you need to treat, then I'd choose a sulfa over amprolium. My drug of choice for coccidia is toltrazuril.

In a 4 week old kid, stomach worms are less likely than coccidiosis if you're seeing diarrhea, poor weight, or slow growth. Most people utelize a coccidia prevention protocol that includes giving a preventative dose of a coccidicide (sulfa or toltrazuril) or a coccidistat (amprolium) every 3 weeks until 'well grown'. (I generally stop around 50lbs and when they're eating a good ration of a coccidistat medicated feed).

Here is a list of wormer drugs and their dosages: http://www.dairygoatinfo.com/f28/wor...wormers-21389/

Toltrazuril is NOT listed as it's a fairly new drug but is technically illegal to use in the US as it has not undergone any testing for use in the US. It is safe in other countries with a meat withdrawal of 70 days. I never use it in goats I'm unsure of the processing date on - only once in very young boer kids (4 weeks) and then rely on shorter withdrawal drugs from there. I do use it until 50+lbs in my dairy replacement/sale kids that are not likely to be butchered for consumption. The dose for toltrazuril is 1cc per 5lbs, SHAKE WELL at every use. You give it ONCE unlike the other coccidia drugs which are dosed 5 days in a row. You can purchase it from horseprerace.com

Here is a place that does 5.00 fecals so you can more effectively treat and prevent parasites on your farm.
