I need help with color.

I am finally getting around to registering my triplet girls (slacker I know).

Well all this time I have been calling the two girls that are twins Sundgau. After reading what they think that color is they would fit more to the swiss but I have never seen a goat registered with Swiss as their color. Can someone help me, heres what they say Sundgau should be

"The sundgau pattern.

The sundgau pattern is somewhat similar to the buckskin pattern, but has one distinct difference. There is no "cape." The body is solid in color (black or chocolate). The underside of the belly is a lighter orange, brown, or cream color, which can extend from the brisket, underside of neck, and up under the jaw. The legs are an orange, brown, or cream color with chocolate or black stripes running down the front of the cannon bones on both front and rear legs. The face has stripes starting above the eyes that usually run down the face toward the nose."

And the Swiss-

"The swiss pattern.

A swiss marked Nigerian will have a black or chocolate body with solid white, cream, tan, or orange legs and hind end. It will also have white, cream, tan, or orange ears and matching facial stripes that extend down to the muzzle. Some will also have a lighter dot on the side of each cheek. There are two colors to this pattern. You can have the most common black swiss marked or the more unusual chocolate swiss marked Nigerian.

Swiss marked and sundgau can sometimes be confused with each other. Easiest way to tell them apart is the sundgau has a lighter colored underbelly. The swiss marked does not. Also, the legs on the swiss marked will be solid. The legs on a sundgau will have black or chocolate stripes below the knees, down the cannon bones on both front and rear legs."

Heres my two girls

Faith is the first notice the two dots on her cheeks. And Hope has one dot on her cheek.

Also to add I know the Lamancha doesn't have a color preference but I want to make sure the color is close as I can get it.

Sundgau is a type of Swiss color pattern. It is the swiss color pattern in black. I can't say that I have ever seen a sundgau alpine with a white belly. Not to say it doesn't happen, but just ignore whatever the website where you got that description was saying. LOL.

I'd put sundgau with a white underbelly. Honestly, the color on the paperwork means next to nothing... :P

Thank you for telling me that. I had a lady tell me at a show one year that if they are off just a little bit they will kick you for life and never be able to finish that goat... I want to cry every time we do papers because I worry I have it wrong lol. I will put Sundgau with white underbelly.

LOL, no. Many goats change colors when they age or when they are clipped (think agouti pattern such as chamoisee). I stopped registering my alpines as cou blanc because EVERY TIME the mature animal is either gray or a tan color on the front end, even if when born they are snow white front halves. So now, they're cou clairs LOL.

My buckling born this spring I registered as a cou clair... turns out, he was just a REALLY dark chocolate as a baby on his rear half, and he's actually a 'lavender'. Oh well.
GoldenWood Farm likes this.
