Keep an eye on your hay!

As reported on our local news - A gal north of us had 30 1500# bales of hay stolen from her petting zoo farm over the holiday. How in the world they got all that out of there is unknown, or even loaded.

Thankfully my barn is a little harder to get into, you just can't back in and load. Hate to load the barn but it may be a blessing now.

and two john deer tractors and a cattle trailer were stolen near here . the thives just load em up in braud daylite and disaper dinner time on a holiday or talking about going out of town on deer hunting trips, leave the thieves a window of opertunity . I suppose hay would be very hard to id once it was on another farm . trucks getting loaded or unloaded are common and go unnoticed so thives often can work in plane site

Hmm, theft is one of the biggest challenge for farmers. I once heard someone in another forum complaining that his diary cows he's spent months to raise got stolen one night. Security is paramount - guns, dogs (the dangerous type, think pitt bulls).

I watched the ag report Sat am. A guy in NW Ill. had someone come into a frame he was renting and cut $18,000 of beans out of the field while he was in another field picking corn. The neighbors saw it all but only thought he had a new combine. His are red the the thief's was green.

And wouldn't you know, insurance wouldn't cover that!
