Will this blood be OK?!

We drew blood on Saturday intending to send it out today. It's been in the fridge, and we plan to send it tomorrow. After looking at pricing on both UPS and FedEx we are just sending it priority mail usps. It won't get there until Friday, so from what I understand won't be tested until next week. Will the blood be ok until then? I assume it will stay fresh in the fridge. But I just want to make sure. Also, when we ship, should we add an ice pack? It's obviously pretty cold, but I've never done this before so I wasn't sure.

I just drew blood and sent it today . I didn't worry about an ice pack because with the weather being so cold it ships just fine. I did the same with my last batch I sent a month ago and it arrived just fine .

From our past experience I would agree that there probably will not be a problem.

We send in sheep blood for scrapie testing with the purple top tubes, so just a little different. I keep it in the fridge until shipping and rock the tubes back and forth several times a day to keep it from settling too much. I use USPS Priority two day shipping (Wisconsin to Colorado) and pay online before taking the box to the post office. That gives good online tracking, usually much better than paying at the post office.

I try to schedule blood collection for weekends or Mondays so it can be shipped out right away and not sit on a truck over the weekend before delivery. This is usually in November after the ewe lambs we are keeping are selected, so no worry about being too hot and needing an ice pack.

Thank you all so much!! We sent it out today, sans ice pack. I also remembered to jot down the tracking so I'll be watching it (probably obsessively!) This was our first go with doing our own blood draws, and first time sending it in. The blood draws went really well...now just waiting for the results!
