My lamancha's ears

I have purchased 2 lamancha does this summer. They are mother and daughter. Mother is supposedly registered and daughter is eligible. (The owner couldn't find papers so I don't have any). Anyway Alex, the mother is 7 and very friendly. I was rubbing her head yesterday and noticed her ear hole, (since she has no ear), was kinda crusty. I looked at her other ear and it looks like it is full of pus. What do I need to do to her ear? I only have saanan, never had lamancha til now and am not familiar with any ear problems. Is this something serious? Could any of you give me a suggestion of what it might be and what might cause it? THanks in advance. Marilyn

we have all nubians except for a mother/daughter lamancha duo... their ears do this too.. I just clean them out and put a few drops of swimmer's ear drops (over the counter, at wally world) into their ears.. wiggle it around and that seems to clear it up.

You can try using peroxide to clear out the goop and pus, then put the ear drops yarrow suggested. I had a lop ear bunny get an ear infection, used peroxide to help loosen the debris and gunk(he also had chunky stuff in there used hemostat's to pull the large stuff out) then squirted a little iodine inside rubbed the based to encourage it to go down. Only had to do this a couple times and the iodine cleared up the infection.

If it is truly pus that you are seeing then an infection is indicated. You can use otc products to help clear up the problem.
You would want to clean the ears with a cleaning agent designed for ears, such a a product designed for dogs. Witch hazel would also work and not cause irritation or pain.
After a thorough cleaning of pus and debris and a thorough drying, you want to treat the infection. There is a product called NFZ Puffer which can be bough at animal supply stores or on line. No prescription required and works very well.

Thank you all so very much!! I knew you would know!! I figured it was an infection cause it looks like pus. I will clean it out good and will get the puffer, I think I might already have it in the barn. Thanks again so much.
