How will I make it til spring???

I brought home a very handsome wildly spotted Nubian buck a month ago. He was loaned to me by a friend for a few months. With in ten days of adding him to the herd all seven of my does came into heat. I was there to see a few of them bred, the rest I only know what days they were willing to stand for the buck. So I marked my calendar and crossed my fingers. One 2 yr old doe who was in the very day he came home and did a little tail wagging three weeks later, but not much and not for long. Not entirely sure she was bred...but I will wait and watch.
The rest have not come back in heat at this point. Hopefully they are all bred and we can expect babies over a two week period next spring. I can't wait to see what the matings produce, my girls are a varied bunch...a Saanen, a Saanen X Boer, an Alpine X Nubian, her Boer X daughter, two colorful full Boers and a Toggenburg. Almost every color represented, but no SPOTS....yet : )

How will I make it til spring?

And the best part? Even better than color possibilities? My Alpine X Nubian is a superb milker (not to mention a very big girl who has produced triplets the last two years) being crossed with this nice buck....just might give me my next superb milker! (If she doesn't have all bucklings that is!) Oh I know I am counting my chickens before they hatch! But this is the stuff my dreams are made of : )

We all count our chickens before they hatch and dream of what we might get.

I got a spotted Nubian buck early last month and have him in with my two lamancha does; one I am milking now and the other I rasied on the bottle will be a year old in febuary I have saw no sign of a doe in heat or breeding , all I can do is cross my fingers . I hope adding him to the farm in October I was not to late though I noticed no sign of heat in the does before his arrival . could I be a bad judge of such things ? my older(1.75 years) milking doe is definaltly the boss or queen in this group ; what is your thoughts in this matter ? should I be worried or should I be confidant of kids next sring was it a mistake leaveing them together 24 7 . the lady I got him from said he fathered kids last year

We separate our buck at night when they come in from pasture but he is with them all day outside. Some bucks are shy breeders and just breed at night.

LOL! I can most definitely wait until Spring, b/c we'll be milking THREE - and only used to milking one.

Maybe Saint Nick will bring Pony an electric milker for Christmas...

LOL!

But you must have checked with the wrong person, Dozedotz. You see, I didn't say Santa Claus. I said "Saint Nick," who happens to be that long-suffering man to whom I am married. His name is Nick, and he's a saint, not only because he's saved, but because he puts up with me.

Arnie, my alpines don't even start cycling a lot of times until October, so you should be fine. They probably bred when you didn't notice. If I have does penned with bucks, I check their rear ends at least once a day. You should notice them get messy when they come in heat/are bred. But they've probably already done the deed by now.

My three girls have all been bred in the last week and I didn't have any kids this year. I feel your pain! Already can't wait to see what they have and I don't even know yet if they settled

I did it to myself so can't complain. December and January I am sure to have kids outta at least 3, was going to do a preggers test on all of em but but these 3 I am sure poor Pebbles is already getting way big Pawnee and Feline both look the same as they did last pregnancy and Pawnee is the first due Dec. 17 and her udder is starting to form. Now my 2 FF Nibbler and Anuket are looking chunky but am on the fence so when I send blood in for CAE test I will have those 2 tested for pregnancy. If all are OH man that means Ima gonna have 5 I will be milking eeeeks!

I thought Cleo was going to kid last week. Her bag started developing and her ligaments went. That was over a week ago. She was due Thursday. I've had my laptop beside my bed for days now. It's hard to sleep with one eye open. All she ever does is lay around and eat hay. I can't imagine waiting until spring. I will have kids hitting the ground periodically until May.
