What is he?

We are goat sitting for a bit for a friend. He rescued the buck a number of years ago & I'm curious what bed you all think he might be? We've thought Nigerian Dwarf, but I'm still fairly new to goats. TIA!

Ok...I have a new phone. How do I post pics? It's a Samsung Galaxy S4.

He looks like pure pygmy to me. Hard to tell through all the fur but he looks stocky. And his markings are more typical of Pygmy than Nigerian.

I don't think pygmies come in that color, though? I'd guess pygmy/Nigerian cross.

LOL in that one pic he almost looks like a porcupine!
I kinda agree with Clover she said stocky I would call it squared...look at him. That body type is more pygmy then nigi, nigi's are a bit longer in the body (more dairy)

When I saw the pic, my first thought was pygmy, second Nigerian dwarf. Like others said, probably a cross between them.

Unregistered pygmies are rarely bred to standard and can be all sorts of colors, shapes, and sizes. I have a caramel, a white with black and brown trim, and a sundgau with roaning and all are supposed to be 'pygmy' but are unregistered. I just call them miniatures as I think it's more accurate. I do agree I see a lot of pygmy in that buck, but as they tend to do when not bred to standard, you get other colors and types than what you'd think of for classic pygmy.

I suspect that a REAL Pygmy breeder would be insulted...but I think he is really cute. I know for sure that the color combo is a NO, NO!!! in the Pygmy world...but he has a certain "air" about him that the girls probably appreciate...keep him separated from them!

He's cute, but has no manners. My friend puts coveralls on & wrestles with him, so he's already head-butted my youngest & myself. He also seems to be possessive of my girls towards me. Hopefully his stay is short-lived...the good thing that has come out of this is I think I can handle the smell of a buck, this one just isn't the right buck. I don't have any papered goats, they're just for fun & I'm going to try milking my mini Nubian. I think I might be in the market for a mini Nubian buck next year!

I can tell you that we had a PB Pygmy boy who was absolutely gorgeous and had the absolute best topline I have EVER seen on a goat of any kind...he was used to breed PB Nubian does for our Kinder herd. Anyway, he LOVED me and I felt the same about him...never had a problem...but he would "get" my husband every chance he had! Luckily, he did NOT have horns...but he was feisty! Our PB Nubian boys have never even appeared to think about "getting" either of us...they just aren't feisty. I have heard that the "feisty" trait is quite common in the Pygmy boys.

He's a smooth-talkin' Pygmy fellow - and a right nice looking fellow he is!

Here are his babies from last year. Daisy, a 1/2 Boer-1/2 Nigie had the 3 all white girls. Prim, our black & white pygmy had Grover, the black & white whether. He makes adorable babies! He just stinks & he's kind of a jerk...

What is he? - Goats
Daisy & 2 of 3 girls (I can't tell them apart except for Lulu because she is TINY.L

What is he? - Goats
All 3 girls, Lulu, Evelyn & Artemis (& Delilah, my mini Nubian baby. I <3 her! I don't have a favorite, but she's my favorite!)

What is he? - Goats
Grover is in the middle, his mama, Prim, is on the right. & of course, beautiful D.

What is he? - Goats
Grover, a little closer up.

I'm not sure if that helps, but my babies are sure cute, huh? Consensus seems maybe pygmy/NG cross? Thanks for all the help! I love all the info! If I had it to do all over again... lol
