Love is in the air!

I already have 2 Nigerians that were confirmed bred for Christmas time and just got confirmation thru Biotracking that my 2 dry yearling alpines are bred for tail end of Jan (so probably Feb, since they're alpines), thank goodness, as they failed to breed as doelings for their yearling kidding.

Nobody had come in heat since then! Until today!

I have 1 alpine and now looks like possibly another coming in. The first will be bred AI and the second to my baby buck. There are 3 Nigerians for sure in heat (possibly more, it's too crazy out there to tell!). I put 2 of those in with my baby buck, but he's not sure how to act and is too skittish for me to hold a doe for him...so he may not get them this heat. I pulled one out for now, so that he could just focus on one at a time, but so far all they are doing is head butting. LOL. The third Nigerian that's for sure in heat will be AI'd. I have 3 does wearing CIDRs right now and had given them their lute this morning in anticipation of pulling them tomorrow morning and AI'ing Tuesday for 2 and live breeding one. One more doe should be coming in heat within the next few days. So, if everyone breeds on first try (which may not happen due to AI's and young bucks), that will be 9 does due within about a 3 or 4 day span! Well, should be interesting at least. Then I'll just have 2 more doelings to breed.

Hey, you'll be REALLY tired for a bit, then it'll be over and you can enjoy all the tiny babies, right?

Oh. My. Goodness. What if they go into labor at the same time? Worse, what if they push at the same time, and one of them needs a kid pulled and you have to hope the other is okay without you watching her? These are the thoughts that would be going through my head if I did it . . . although it'll be fun to have so many kids around the same age hopping around!

Well, 2 of the does are not actually in heat like a thought. I guess they were just excited with all the other action.

There is another doeling in heat though. And I put her with the wild Nigerian buckling who at least was attempting to mount her, so hopefully he's got all 3 that I bred with him knocked up. If not, I'll know in 3 weeks, eh? Now I just wait for the 3 that I pulled CIDRs on to come in.

It is nice having them all kid around the same time, but it also means less premiums/classes to fill at the fairs.

I don't mind them going in labor all at once. Actually, for the last 2 years, my mom has come for a visit when I have a large group of does due and helps watch my human kids, so it is nice if a bunch are due at once. So far, I've had more than one in labor before, but not had them pushing at exactly the same time. If I did, I do have friends that live nearby with goats who would come help too. I've helped others with their kidding goats before, and I'm sure they'd help me too.
