What is this wound from?

I noticed this a few months ago and just assumed it would heal. Its been a few months and I just "re-noticed" it again. She doesn't seem to want me to touch it.

Other issues, not sure if they are related:

1) she gets diarrhea frequently. I've given chelated charcoal, and just this week a deworm pellets.

2) she seems to have a low appetite lately when I bring her in to milk, doesn't finish her food

3) problem 1 and 2 have let to a huge drop in milk production, from over 1 gallon a day to maybe a quart a day

It looks like a contact rash, possibly allergy or chemical burn from laying on bedding. Goats naturally get callouses on their knees and sternums from lying down. But this looks more pronounced. Do you put down lime heavily in the barn, that could be a cause. Could also come from wet bedding with an accumulation of urine. It could also be she had a scratch or injury and its having a hard time healing. Either cause, I would try cleaning out the barn and replacing bedding, it couldn't hurt.

I don't think the other problems are related. But check her pasterns and hocks. If they're flakey and itchy, could be a sign of mites, its nearly that time of year. Mites would account for all the later symtoms - they're pretty miserable.

For the runs, a fecal test to include cocci. Regular wormers will not help if it is.
The sore could be some sort of irritation from laying on it, where does she like to hang out? Any spiders, ants etc?

There are fire ants in the yard. She has a few different spots she likes to hang out in, all sandy (we don't have dirt in central FL). Maybe too much urine in the sand she lays in.

What can I use to treat mites or cocci ?

You need to get a fecal done ASAP so you know what to treat for. Worm loads will cause substantial drops in milk production.

Deworm pellets are not a good option for an effective deworming.

You can also check her eyelids to see what color her membranes are. Pale means anemia and is associated with barberpole worm load.

I have never treated an adult for coccidia, and it would be an unusual cause for diarrhea in a normal adult animal. Adult animals will have a load, however - but they should have an immune system more than capable of handling a normal load. This is why getting a fecal done is important. You can either take one to your vet or there this place that does fecals for 5.00 each. You'd still have to pay for shipping, but if your vets prices are like mine, it still comes out cheaper. :P http://www.midamericaagresearch.net/

As for her appetite, It could be worm load if she's feeling sick, or it could be acidosis.

I think the irritated area between her legs is from flies. Probably not related to other issues. Desitin would help the rash
