should i be worried??? (sick? goat)
Ive been raising goats for 11 years and ive never experienced this! This is about my saanen doe (kidded as yearling last Feb, been milking her since) yesterday morning she milked out an average haul for her, but only ate half her grain (she's a "picky" eater anyway, so its not the first time she hasn't finished her breakfast unlike my others who act like every meal will be their last) but did notice her poop was formed pellets, but clumped together. Not the first time ive seen this! She seems to be pretty sensitive to weather changes, more so than my others (2 alpines, a nubian, a lamancha and 2 fainters don't seem be affected by weather at all) and we did just have a couple weeks of very steady temps, followed by 2 ridiculously hot and muggy days, in rolled the storms and now back to 70's and dry (so lots of changes inside of a weeks time) anyway, I kept an eye on her for the day and she was acting perfectly normal and was eating plenty of hay and drinking water fine.... PM milking time came around and she gave off MAYBE a cup (6-7 is her norm) and she had about 2 bites of her grain and she seemed a LITTLE "off" and her ears were a tad on the "droopy" side.... I took her temp and it was 104.8 (usually runs 103.8-104 so not too far off) this morning, she again only milked out about a cup (ive been discarding it just in case) and didn't touch her grain at all. But she is still eating hay, grazing and drinking (poop still looks the same) she is perky, alert, active, her eyes and gums look good, not lethargic, sluggish, or uncoordinated, and they are all on a very strict worming schedule and ive never had issues with this. Anyway, nothing has changed for her diet, grazing area etc and I change waters 2x a day. Is this something I should be concerned about or just monitor? She was already bred when I bought her, so I don't know what she is like when in heat but she does not seem interested in our buck in the least. Our other dairy girls drop production a little, but never that much in a day, when in heat but NEVER go totally off their grain or clumpy poop (one fainter is a nightmare and gets the runs and is a miserable witch every heat cycle.... I panicked and called the vet at 6am thinking she was dying the first time it happened, 5 years later its still the same every time.....) but this is just odd for her... and as always, im a worry-wart goat mom... is there something else it could be?
