Milk off now!!

So, I was the one posting on here a couple weeks ago that we tried our milk and love it. We have been drinking it ever since and love it. Poured a glass this morning and it is very " GOATY". What could cause this? Feed is the same besides we moved them and they are able to graze a little but that was just an hour before milking last night. They were kinda freaking out during the move and after. We milked them just an hour or so after we moved them. Could the stress of the move cause it? Help, I have to have it back now that I have been drinking it!!

Do they a good loose mineral available to them 24/7? Deficient in minerals can affect the taste of their milk.

That might be the culprit. Get a good loose mineral & see if that doesn't help.

My wife reminded me today that we threw them a few pumpkins about 4 days ago and they have had them everyday since then. Think that could do it?

Any abrupt change in feed can cause problems.

When mine go on a burdock eating binge, it usually takes about three days for their milk to be all back to normal. That being said, I don't mind it too much so I don't pay a whole lot of attention - if a jar tastes goaty I just earmark it for cheese (goaty milk makes GREAT cheese!). So I could be wrong.

I'd be guessing, so I'm very glad someone else answered the question!

Just remember that giving your goats any large amount of different feed causes digestive distress. The microorganisms in their gut that process the food have to make adjustments, and the undigested food before those changes are made can cause acidosis, diarrhea, and/or simply a gut ache. Imagine that you were a vegetarian and splurged on a steak. PAIN! Diarrhea!

Even if you are tossing them trimmings from the garden, keep volume low.

They still need the loose mineral.
