My learned goat arrived...

My learner goat arrived on Monday from Tucson from Willcox. Apparently someone bought her as a pet from a little farm in Willcox and then decided she was too messy for a pet. She is a young (she is young, about five months) Nigerian dwarf doe named "buttons". She is disbudded and very sweet. Of course she will not stay in her prepared goat enclosure and prefers to sleep under the trailblazer? As soon as we break out of monsoon season I will provide her with a good fence. Will field fence with the small squares do the job? I will also get her into a vet for a general check up and to introduce myself to the vet. I really like her, she has big personality for a little animal. sis

LOL that thread title caught me. I thought you had a trick goat.

But yes, field fencing will do. She will certainly attach herself to you, maybe too much for your comfort, as goats crave company. Are you looking for another goat for her?
With vets, you need to be a little careful as some vets don't know much about goats. I think all their time is spent learning the biggies like cattle, horses and even sheep. And goats are not alternate sheep.
Did you get her mineral mix?

Congratulations on your new goat! :-) She'll probably stay in her pen better once she has a buddy. Goats hate being alone worse than they hate water.

Tractor supply carries field fencing with 4" squares top to bottom -- I think they actually call it goat fencing -- that works well. We did our whole place in it. It's NOT a good fence for horses (they could get their feet caught in the holes) but fine for goats.

If she's jumping out of her pen, make sure you make the fence around the new pen high enough to contain her. Six feet may be necessary if you have a fence jumper. :-)

Enjoy her! *grin*
