Talking Excited..Acquiring New Goaty Skills

I'm an excited ball of nerves right now and just had to share

I used CIDRs/Lute/PG600 to sync up a couple does to travel for breeding... One doe, Mocha was a live cover breeding to a buck I've been drooling over for a couple years and my doe Tricks we AI'd.

I had this idea in my head that goat AI was a complicated affair (have AI'd cattle and that's simple, but have never done goats)... But in reality it wasn't as complex as I imagined

My friend did the first straw the evening I showed up and walked me through it as she did it.... Next morning I got to try my hand at it with my friend coaching from the sidelines.... Not too hard and she said all looked great

Now I have the torture of waiting 30 days before I can blood test for pregnancy and the anticipation is going to kill me

And "just beacuse" I have to share pics of Tricks & her cute lil FF udder this year... Just adore this girl She's milked well this year, is by far the easiest goat to hand milk and instantly took to the milk stand with no effort or time on my part... Soooooooo hoping her AI takes

Bite your tongue Crystal! I don't even want to THINK about breeding yet...I am still bottle feeding THIS years kids . Okay yes by my own choice but still...I can't think about breeding just yet for my own sanity.

Though I have found myself thinking who I wanted to breed to whom this year....I have time yet .

I can't wait to hear about what a success your A.I. went, eventually I will venture into that realm as well.

I agree with Justine...here I am still bottle feeding kids, lol. I guess I need to get on the ball.

Crystal...can you detail the protocol you used? I'd love to hear updates too Fingers crossed for you.
I have 3 does I need to sync for driveway breedings...was going to wait until October...

Thanks y'all Was really exciting to freshen a doe with my herd name and find such a cute, easy to milk udder

Josie, below is a copy paste of a CIDR protocol that was handed out at an AI class....This is what I used to sync my does...

For October 1st AI Class

1)- Insert Cidr on 09/15 - (16 days before class)
2)- On 09/28 give 2cc lute (IM) at 10AM (Central Time) - (3 days before class)
3)- On 09/29 at 10AM (Central Time)-PULL CIDR and give 1 1/4 cc PG600 (IM) - (2 days before class)
-
The TIMES are very important so that the doe will be ready to AI on Saturday between 1 & 2pm Eastern time
-
Your doe should start showing signs of heat 24 hours after pulling the CIDR, take note of flagging, talking, pacing and mucus...the ability to observe this in your doe is a crucial part of AI. We will need you to be able to tell us when she headed into heat.

Just wanted to note that you don't generally AI while in standing heat. Ovulation occurs later. Generally you AI around 50hrs after pulling the CIDR/giving Lute. You expect heats 24hrs after pull. You generally go off of mucous consistency.

I give PG600 36hrs before pulling CIDR/giving Lute.

With Tricks she'd been standing, flagging the boys down heat for about 6 hours....Took alil over 2 hours to drive to my friends house, and another hour before we got started....She said we were probably a lil early with the first straw, but did the second straw the next morning & she said ths mucus was ideal at that point So now we wait & see...The other doe I took with me was a live cover breeding & she didn't start cycling until that morning after Tricks had already been standing...

Wish there was a pregnancy test I could do before the 30 day mark....The wait is killing me!

There kindof is a pregnancy test... wait 21 days and see if she goes into heat.

lol no no! I wanna see the word PREGNANT on paper And, one of these girls is VERY quiet about cycling & I've missed a heat on her in the past so I don't trust myself to catch her and know without a doubt....

Plus, I have one VERY fat Nubian now because I assumed she was pregnant after she didn't cycle again.... Swore she was bred, then her due date came and went without babies.... Been fighting all summer to trim her down (she wasn't overweight when I bred her last fall) & I'm crossing my fingers that she took.... She had the CIDR round just like the LM girls, but she stayed home with my buck after I pulled the CIDR..
