Help needed end of December......

I inserted CIDR's in 19 goats last week. What was I thinking? I can't have 19 goats kidding all at once. I've decided to pull 1/3 on day 14. 1/3 on day 18 and the rest on day 21. Or I could just have a free for all!!!!

Lord knows I have enough bucks to handle it.

Yes. I have plenty of room. But I pull all babies at birth and begin bottle feeding. It all sounded good in my head when I knew I would be off work for a few weeks.

Well we are right down the road in Mountain View, but I do not see any issue for you? Sounds like you have it all planned out, what could go wrong. I mean you will have them spaced out almost a week!!!

Nope. 5 hours from Texarkana. Last year I averaged over 2 per. These are either big older girls or will be 2 year olds. I'm not breeding any of the yearlings until December if I even breed them.

We are NOT doing what we did last year (kidding 26 does in a 2 week span)... too much with jess having her baby in late sept..my sister retiring and moving to the farm next month.. I'm also NOT using Cidr's this year.. just going to let the girls come in naturally.. breed no more then 3 or 4 on one day (so I can fiddle around with induction days and not have a whole bunch at once).. My game plan is a few in late jan/early feb.. a few more late feb/early mar.. a decent sized group mid march.. finish up by april.. (it worked wonderfully year before last.. no Cidr's.. all natural heats.. 100% conception rate.. with this last year and the Cidr's.. I had 3 does that recycled.. and we ended up dragging out kidding.. one a month in mar/april and may..(I ***HATE*** may kids.. also hate kidding out just one doe.. want my moms to be in the kidding barn with a pregnant friend.. kidding the same time).. haven't counted does but think we are breeding at least 30..

good luck with your dec kiddings.. we usually vacation somewhere warm in late dec/early jan... taking advantage of no does in milk, no kids to bottle.. plan on running off to tx for tequila, tacos & tattoos this winter...

susie

LOL!! Good luck with that! I just pulled CIDRs on 3 does & bred them (plus one gal cycled on her own).... My December kiddings will be less crazy than yours I'm sure

I like late December - early February kids best of all.... All mine were March/late April this year and I wasn't too fond of that..

How can y'all be thinking about breeding yet . I just posted in Crystal's thread that I am still bottle feeding my kids, of my own choice of course .

Doug you have my utmost sympathy...I thought two does kidding on one day was hard. I can't imagine having 19 even over the span of a few days.... I like March kids myself so breeding won't be happening until October I believe. And any yearlings won't be until middle of November for some April babies.

I will be having 5 that are having November kids. They cycled on their own.

The goal is to have the keepers weaned by this time of year.

I'm also still feeding milk to around 15 or so. I won't have a break from that this year. I have two that are only weeks old and the kidding starts in November.

Oops. I decided to move up half the goats to an earlier kidding date. I did a 10 day CIDR. I gave pg600 yesterday morning and pulled CIDR's last night. 7 heats today for 3 bucks. Guess when 150 days from today is!!!!!!!

I don't have the luxury of spacing them out if I want to be here when they kid so this year they will all be bred the same week unless something odd comes about. I actually liked it last year all where done in a few days but I only did 10 does this year it will be more like 15 but at least I only turn into a zombie for a few days then its over with.

Nestor the Long Eared Christmas Goat was my plan for any floppy ear offspring out of Cookie and Rudy.

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixon could be girl names

Rudy of course votes for his name: Rudolf
