Wheat for Goats?

There seem to be mixed opinions of feeding wheat kernals to goats.
Based on what I have read, I am thinking of giving a handful of the wheat with some baking soda and grain for when they are on the milking stand.

Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with wheat?
How about a little for the chickens also?

I've read much wheat and gum up into a ball in the rumen because of the gluten and potentially cause a physical blockage. So, I would soak and sprout it before feeding. Sprouted, I would think you could feed like any other grain. It is also used to grow fodder which many feed to dairy animals.

I feed wheat to my girls on the stand, it's what I can get. I don't feed much, not near as much grain as most people feed but they have had no issues with it in 4 years. They get roughly 1/4 of a 3lb coffee can of it, maybe a bit less.

I feed wheat and field peas to my free ranging chickens. They do very well on it but I don't know if it would be enough for them if that is their only feed. Mine get to go out and supplement with whatever they can find.
