How did I do. Yearling that had long scurs

I forgot to get a before picture. But I snipped them off all the way to the base. She was bleeding pretty good. I held her with one arm while holding the iron with the other. I did it by myself. She's a pretty big girl and will be shown. I couldn't have scurs.

If they come back. I'll do it again. This is the second one I cleaned up. The first one looks perfect now and has the hair grown back. I'm not afraid to tackle about anything.

How long were they beforehand? Where they loose or attached & solid?

These were solid. They were over an inch long.

What did you use to snip them?

What you manage to accomplish always amazes. My vet just did one of ours for $70.

Thank you for posting this. I would love to see a future update to see if this was/is a permanent fix.

If you do another, a step-by-step photo sequence would make a nice sticky! We have a couple show wethers that we have to pop the scurs off of a couple times a year. I have noticed that one has started leaving bloody bumps that are bigger each time, most recently about 3/4 of an inch. I have wondered about burning them after popping them off, but maybe your trim job plus burn is a better (more permanent) idea.

Did the burn control the bleeding fairly quickly?

Goat hoof trimmers or horse hoof nippers?

Before you all jump in here and try to be Douglas, let me tell you about the first time we met him...I thought he was Paul Bunyon! That is not an exaggeration, folks. Also, while he was not carrying a blue ox under his arm, he probably could lift one of his big bucks!! No goat is going to like this procedure so be sure you are NOT doing this alone unless you too are 8 feet tall and strong as a blue ox!! Not all of us are capable of what Doug makes look easy...

The burn controlled the bleeding fairly quickly. And it was goat hoof trimmers.

Lol. I'm not that big. I can lift the bucks.

Yea. Most people would need help.

Left side completely smooth. Right side has a hard knot but I believe hair will cover it before long. It's not growing. I probably should of trimmed it down more before final burn. Yes. These are my barn pants. aka pajamas

That is a beautiful disbudding I'd say.

That little bump is common even in early disbuddings... don't sweat the small stuff and be proud of that good looking nubian head.
