what I used when goat wouldn't eat

I took a pic of the stuff I used when Bella quit eating and one of the SaanenTalk ladies suggested she had a cobalt deficiency.

I used Keto Plus gel as the base. It's not as nasty as the CMPK gel.
Then, I added a squirt of Liquid B vitamins, a pulverized zinc tablet, a pulverised selenium tablet, an 1/16 of a tsp on powdered cobalt, and a packet of Instant Energy B 12 supplement. The Instant Energy has multiple B vitamins, too.

The reason I added all the B supplements is that this doe REALLY HATES shots.

She has been on this once a day for about ten days. Four more days of daily supplementation, then I'll step it down.

Some days I add a bit of Replamin Plus, too.

That is really a good idea! Some of them would rather die, literally, than take shots
Now, if you don't mind my asking, where did you obtain such things?
(order them, or does your co-op or farm store carry them?)

Thanks in advance!

Did she eat that willingly or did you drench her with her, so much per day?
Do you see any improvement yet?
Also where did you order the cobalt powder?

I got most of it either from Wal Mart (the human supplements) or the feed store (the Keto gel).

The cobalt came from
http://www.jollygerman.com/livestock...tsulfate.shtml

Note: Sometimes I add a spoonful of peanut butter. Sometimes I add a spoonful of molasses. Sometimes I don't.

I used an old dosing tube from Probios to give it to her. Mixed the stuff in a little bowl, sucked it up into the tube, stuck it in the corner of her mouth, squirrrrt. She anticipates it and looks for me to bring it. No reluctance at all.

YES, as of yesterday she has eaten three meals in a row on the milk stand. Her coat is looking better, and I *think* she is gaining some weight back. Her milk production has increased.

Another thing I did that may or may not be related.....

She kept leaving the last of the feed in the pan. I THOROUGHLY washed the pans, and she's doing better about cleaning up the last bits. (It has been two MONTHS since she finished her feed, so this is significant.) Perhaps rodents had been in the pans? Perhaps she didn't like the smell of stale feed dust in the corners?

My little bowl of mixed minerals and vitamins, the pestle (was an incense burner) the ice cream scoop I'm using for a pestle), and the ProBios tube. Click on the pic, and it will get bigger.

Also, I think this goat would have wasted away without a suggestion from Coso, Chris Orr. He said feed her bread to settle her stomach, which was also acidotic. I gave her a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat, cut in little pieces, once a day for weeks and weeks. Without those calories to keep her going, I'm sure this would have a different outcome. Thank you, Chris!
