Don't know about alfalfa pellets, but the price of rabbit feed here has gone way up. It increased a bunch about 3 years ago when grain prices went up, but they have leveled or fallen. I asked the mill manager what was causing the increased cost, and he said there was a real shortage of alfalfa meal this Spring and the price had risen severely. Since (good) rabbit pellets are predominately alfalfa, the price of feed has almost doubled since this time last year.
They are even making a new feed which uses a lot of cotton seed hulls to keep the cost down. (Don't be tempted if you are a rabbit breeder, the stuff is junk)
It looks as if this is going to be a trend. First one feedstuff increases, then when people switch to something else that increases. One would think that price would go back down when there are good years for grain etc., but it never seems to. About the only thing that has gone back down around here is hay. That may change as, although it is a great year for growing hay, no one can get it harvested.
