Question Have I been had?

Last year I added a "nubian mix" doeling to my herd. I got her in a barter that was worth about 150$ if I put a cash value on it from a woman down the road.
The mama was her best dairy doe (in production, personality and manners) and was 50/50 nubian/kinder. Dad was supposedly full nubian.

I've been very happy with handling "Ginger" for juvenile milkstand training but at 16 months old, she's not much bigger at all than she was when she arrived at 5 months old. I'm suspicsh at this point that her sire was Nigie. Not Nubian.

Here she is at this time last year:
Have I been had? - Goats

And here she is now. Those are nigerians behind her.
Have I been had? - Goats

Possible she's going to shoot up like a weed here any day now? or do your eyes see Nigerian too? I can rule out the kinder having too much influence, my best friend also picked up two doelings last year from the same seller from full blood (full size) nubian moms that were ALSO this size and age and growing slow. (She sold them as mini nubians because she gave up on them growing up to full size dairy.)

She is big for a Nigerian. How tall is she at the shoulder?

Genetics is a funny thing.

50 inches is a rather tall goat. Maybe you need to measure her?

50 inches??

That's over four feet tall. I don't have any goats that big.

American Dairy Goat Association requires Nigerian Dwarf does to be less than 22.5 inches (57 cm) at the withers.

No, she's not Nigerian.

If that fence is 2x4, she looks to be about 22 inches at the shoulder.

If the mom was 50% Nubian and the sire was full Nubian then she would be a rather large goat.

cm... she's up to my knee.... my mature nubian is a little taller than my hip. Sorry for the confusion. I had a lot going on yesterday and just grabbed one of the carpentry rulers and didnt give it another thought.. lol. So normal for a doe that's almost a year and a half old?

Was any cocci prevention used by the seller before you acquired her? I'm wondering if she had a cocci load when you got her which could have stunted her growth. Before I knew more I had a few large breed kids that did not grow out well. In hindsight they never showed any signs (no diarrhea) but I'm suspecting cocci was the issue with those kids.

Probably not. Seems like kind of a lax household. The production does were very sleek and healthy and I suspect good apparent condition in the coat and in the pail was probably "enough". If that was the case it would've been an ignorance issue towards the care of the animals. They care about their animals, its just their interactions with other humans I know of that are suspect.

She's a great doe. I don't care how tall she gets as long as she freshens with a nice udder like her dam had, I'd just kind of like to know so I can fully disclose the hybrid genetics to people who buy her kids.

Those ears. A 3/4 Nubian should have longer ears.

That's what I've been thinking too. Her ears strongly resemble other nig/nubi hybrids I know of in shape and size and "flop".

Well if mom was Nubian/Kinder then she has Pygmy genes in her which could explain why she is smaller. Genetics are funny things and I am NOT an expert on them but it seems to me this could be a weird throw back? Or maybe mom was bred by a Kinder buck?

Just throwing out ideas .

Genetics are funny. My largest doe, bred to a very large buck the past 2 seasons gave me twin doelings both times. Sizes are very large, tiny, very large and very large. The tiny one was half the size of her twin at birth and has never caught up. She is smaller than any of the other yearlings. I don't think she will ever be larger than a mini. She is pure LaMancha, no nigies or pygmies anywhere in her background.

Genetics are random and just because you breed a mini to a giant and have always gotten larger offspring, doesn't mean that eventually you will get a mini from them as well.

To re-iterate- doelings from nubian mothers from the same breeder from that season are the same size as mine that is allegedly 75% Nubian. Same sire.

(They are for sale on craigs)

Those kids in the photo are Boer crosses . Not saying they don't have Nubian in them but they don't look a thing like your little girl. I also would be shocked if those two goats have Nigerian or Pygmy in them to make them minis.

I am stumped to say the least on what that breeder was doing with her herd .

Kind of adds to the full picture of "nubian" according to the seller though, doesn't it.
