Tell me about lamanchas...

In general...things like size, temperament, would they be good at clearing brush. Noisy?

I have an opportunity to purchase a clean sibling pair of non breeding quality for real cheap. I just hesitate....I have never had lamanchas. Of course I never had ND's until now either

Most are quiet, calm and good at brush clearing. Size can vary some. Bigger than the ND. Not sure what you mean by non-breeding quality? Are they males or females?

I love them. They are quiet and clear brush just fine. Give lots of good milk too. I have had fewer breakouts with them than with the pigmy goats I had before. They are really friendly.

I have found mine to be calm quiet and friendly; but I use mine for what she was bred for ;the role of a milker .

A pair of males of pretty much any breed or cross make good pets if castrated. Pretty much any breed can be appropriate for almost any home provided you don't purchase animals that rub you the wrong way. Knowing the personality of the herd they come from helps. You can get LaManchas that yell all the time, as well as quiet nubians. We can tell you tendancies of breeds, but not precisely what you're going to get.

Unless the female has one of a few serious defects, she is 'breeding quality' IMO, just depends on your goals. But, if her defect doesn't still allow you to still pursue your goals, don't buy her - she'll be a worthless mouth to feed. A doe could be imperfect and yet still be a perfectly good family milker, or even produce much higher quality daughters than herself when bred to the appropriate buck.

She has a teat defect. Owner is selling her and brother as pet quality, not to be bred.

I say go for it . I have been raising and breeding LaManchas for almost 12 years and while I have had many different breeds my heart belongs to LaManchas. My does range from 130-150lbs and my bucks are in the 200-260lb full grown.

Why I love my LaManchas
-Quiet
-Easy to handle
-Calm, sweet and loving demeanor
- Get along well with many different breeds
- Steadfast and even tempered
- Great milk production for their size
- Great TASTING milk (big plus for me!)

LaManchas are the goat person's goat, everyone I met who owns a LaMancha falls in love with their quirky looks and sweet, loving personality. Like I said I have owned many different breeds but nothing ever came close to what my LaManchas are like. There is just something about them, they are so smart and level headed and something about those small ears gets you .

Depending on the teat defect... she may do well in a 50% boer kid production situation. The acceptable teat structure is more lax for boers, because the only requirement is that they be able to nurse their kids. Many structures allow for that use. It's not uncommon to see 4 teats on a boer doe. There ARE some structures that are unacceptable or 'questionable'. Just food for thought. Her genetics never need go back into the dairy gene pool that way.

Some teat defects are not inherited. Whether or not she should be bred depends on how bad the defect is. You can decide that later. Be sure the male is castrated before you bring them home.
