Banded buckling smells

I banded him on Saturday. Everything looked good and he was back to normal in 30 minutes.

Yesterday evening I was smelling something dead and realized it was coming from him. I checked and saw no redness or swelling. He is acting normal and has a good appetite.

I have only banded two before and don't recall either smelling.

I made an iodine mixture and squirted that on there and added another band just below (toward the testicles) just in case there is infection to help keep it from spreading.

I can find almost nothing on the subject.

Is this normal? If not, what do I need to do?

The horrendous humidity means that THINGS aren't drying like they should. I'd go with iodine on it.
GoldenWood Farm and dozedotz like this.

Thank you, Alice. I did put more iodine on it this morning.

Good to know it's "normal".

Basically they rot off. That's what your smelling is decaying flesh. Iodine won't hurt, will help the drying process.
