#4 HELP?Babies are here!

Skittle kidded with 3 bucks (!) about 2 hours after her plug started coming out. Kid #1 presented butt first and I had to help pull him. #2 and 3 are doing great but the kid I pulled is struggling.

It took him about 2.5 hours to stand and he won't nurse. He is refusing a bottle and I had to tube him. Also smeared some Selenium/Vitamin E gel on his tongue. Temp is 102.3. He's finally up on his feet but he's still weak. Suggestions? I do not have any Bo-Se.

How is that for a first kidding? I had to pull him, he won't eat, and I tubed him. Very stressful few hours, lol.

Pics in the morning. I am so tired and there's tons more to do tonight.

Backwards births are a little rough because the umbilical separates from the body earlier during this kind of birth and the lack of oxygen stimulates the kid to breathe - wether or not it's still inside the doe. A backwards kid needs pulled as soon as possible after you notice. I bet you did the best you could, we don't have x ray vision to see that they're coming butt first.... :P But, that could help to explain his slowness at first - they are more likely to have aspirated fluid. Watch him close for pneumonia or continued problems. Otherwise if you've tubed him, you've done exactly what needed to be done.

Thanks. We are doing what we can. He was definitely frank breech...his little tail poked out before anything else. His bum came out before the back legs. It probably took right at 5 minutes from the time I saw the tip of his tail first appear until he was delivered. Maybe 7, tops. This was our first-ever birth and I feel pretty good about how we handled it. It would have been nice to get him out a bit sooner but I am hoping it was fast enough.

The bucking is standing a lot more but still refuses to take a bottle. I had not tubed him in about 4 hours and when I woke up, he had little spit bubbles coming from his mouth. He also has a lot of wetness around his mouth....definitely coming from mouth and not nose/eyes. Temp was 102.0. I did not swing him after birth.

He keeps making this little mouth movement....like an older person without teeth who is trying to gum something. Or a goat chewing cud.

Here he is:

Buckling #3

This is DD's favorite. She is very, very unhappy about this one being sold -- but he will be sold. Anyone want to buy him, lol?

He is gorgeous. I've found him a home already as a herd sire.
