Worm or what?

I was milking a goat this morning that recently came from the auction. Two yellow worms appeared in the milk bucket. Searching threads here I read that its unlikely it came from the udder, so is it from her body? If so, what do I do? Worm her and toss the milk? I'm not drinking it, but I wanted to use it to bottle feed three kids.

Was it alive, or is it just a yellow chunk of dried milk?

If alive, I'm guessing tapeworm or something that fell on her from a tree or tall grass.

If you recently purchased her, several things need to happen.

1. Treat her for worms with Cydectin, given orally. Retreat in ten days.
Information on worm treatment and dosages is located here: http://www.dairygoatinfo.com/f28/wor...wormers-21389/

2. Draw blood and have it tested for CAE.
Instructions for drawing blood. http://www.boergoats.com/clean/articleads.php?art=64
Where to send the blood. http://www.biotracking.com/?q=LAB/CAE/what

CAE is passed through the milk to kids. It is one of the primary reasons to avoid purchasing goats at auction, where you have no access to information about their health.

CAE can cause seizures in goat kids. In adults, in shows up as arthritis and/or a ruined mammary system due to scar tissue.

It was alive. Wiggling . Now I feel like my head is itching....Oh my, what a disaster! I think I'll just call the person who brought her over and have him get her. I don't want to lose my babies. I was worried about bottle feeding them formula, but this is worse.

Whole cow milk from the grocery store. NOT low fat. Warm to 100 degrees.

I second the whole cows milk from the store. Your babies will do great on that.

Babies did fine on whole milk . I did pick up some Does Match from Land o Lakes and cut it half and half. I think that Does Match is good stuff for goats. Not like the mystery powder you typically find at the feed store.

I am guessing being that small maybe tapeworm...if it dries and ends up looking like a grain of rice, BINgo!
Tapeworm is passed along by swallowing a flea that has swallowed the egg of a tapeworm. Or by eating raw meat...

how a lone tapeworm would get in the milk is beyond me, however. Doesn't make much sense. I would bet it is not a fecal worm, and got there some other way. Unless poop got in the milk?

Buying from an auction is about the worst thing you can do, health wise. lots of fun stuff transfer through milk. Johnes and CAE are good ones. And, a new goat can bring in CL as well, spread through abscesses and persistent in the environment for about a year, highly contagious. And zoonotic. :/
