Sick doe and kid

A few days ago I noticed a sore in the corner of a buckling's mouth. Yesterday I noticed there was a sore on the doe's teat, and she also had a sore in the corner of her mouth. I have them both in a stall away from all my other goats. They were in a big pen with other kids and does before I separated them when I saw the sores. They don't have any other sores anywhere, just corners of the mouth and on the doe's teat. They almost look like blisters. The one on her teat is white on the edge then just bloody in the middle.

I have no clue what it is, what caused it or how to treat it. I definitely don't want any of my other 16 goats to get it. This doe was about to go to auction as a cull anyway. She's always been my weakest one. I was waiting a couple more weeks til the kid was weaned. He's 6 weeks now.

My main concern is it spreading to the other goats. Is it sore mouth? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It's Orf (sore mouth) and is highly contagious, including to you and your family. Any time you handle the doe or kid, make sure you wear gloves. Keep them isolated and let it run its course.

That's what I thought it was. I knew it was highly contagious to people as well. So just keep them isolated and let it run it's course? That's what I've been reading. I just don't want it to spread.

Yep - just keep them away from all other goats and let it run its course.

I've had this doe for at least 3 years, and she's never shown symptoms before. None of my other goats are showing symptoms and they never have either. Only her and her buckling. It's frustrating.

You may have a carrier in the herd. They have enough immunity to not be sick, but still spread the virus.
