So...what nipples do you use for bottle kids?
Alice's thread got me thinking....
Also let me know if they are for a mini or standard sized goat please!
No

I used the Pritchard nipples for mini goats when Cassie had her quints.

Right now, with my new Nubian doelings, I'm using clear silicone nipples that I got at TSC. They are WONDERFUL. They fit nicely on soda bottles.
They are called Producers Pride Controlled Flow Nipples.

I have been using these for a few years now http://hoeggerfarmyard.com/xcart/Con...le-Nipple.html.
They look to be the same sort that Alice posted. Good to know I can get them at TSC now. I love those things!
Oh, and standard size goats.

The nipples I use come from Hoegger's. They look almost exactly like the ones Alice's link shows (Producer's Pride), except they have a flange which allows you to use them with regular (human) baby bottles as well as the bottles from Hoegger's. I use them for minis and standards. If a baby is very tiny, I'll use a Pritchard nipple, then work them over to the nipples pictured.

I use Pritchard nipples on all my kids and sometimes I switch the bucks over to the grey lambar nipples when they get older. But Pritchard nipples are my favorite on the farm .

I use Pritchard nipples for brand new babies, but switch them to the black pop bottle nipples after a couple days. I find the Pritchards are too flimsy for aggressive nursers.
The black ones are great, and easy to use. I just bought a new latex nipple and it's easy to use too, but my goats don't like the shorter nipple.

I just disbudded a mini goat for a friend, and she brought a bottle with her. She uses Nuk human baby bottle nipples!

Most new babies, no matter size start out on a human baby bottle. We like the Fisher Price nipples at Dollar General. 6 for 1.75 I think. Really small nigerian babies may start out on Pritchard's. Mini's and standards get graduated to orange lamb nipples very soon.

These are truly awesome! I use them for all size kids and they are even easy to get dam-raised kids switched onto! I have occasionally used pritchards for tiny Nigerians, but these Rhinehardt ones seem to work better most of the time, maybe because they are easier to keep in the kid's mouth/keep from spitting them out. I use these on a bucket feeder with nipples on the bottom, which I think was their original purpose, but whenever they get worn out or start leaking a little (on the bucket), I just replace them and save back the worn nipple to use on actual bottles. You do have to be careful the kids don't pull them off bottles, because they are kind of soft. I cut the ring off the pop bottles and push them way down as far as they will go, and that seems to make them more secure.

With the latest group (and last of the season), we have switched to the lamb bar nipples. They seem to be migrating to the actual lamb bar a little easier. Of course, I still have one little princess that still wants her own little red nipple.

Lambar nipples are by far my favorite. I hated prichard nipples, too soft to shove in a confused newborns' mouth to get them to eat, especially if they're a 'dumb' one. They fit on buckets AND on soda bottles easily.
When I had minis, I started the little kids out on human baby bottle nipples (and bottles) - but only the runts or tiny doelings. Usually everybody could go on a lambar nipple no problem.

Ditto on the lambar nipples - I use these for all kids - both minis and standards. Never had a problem with them not working - even a 2.5lb premie nubian doe kid I had once was able to suck fine from it.
Before I used the lambar I'd use the black lamb nipples they sell at local feed stores.

Over these many years have tried and used them all.. Now am using the human nipples also from the dollar stores. No problems at all. Just adjust the size of the hole for them to suck an amount suitable for their ages. Easy to clean and cheap to replace.
