Extra kids are gone!

What a GOOD feeling to have the extra kids sold and gone for the year . I also sold off one of my problem milkers who just caused a ruckus in the entire herd. It feels nice to just have my 5 keeper doelings from this year, the 7 milkers and the 2 bucks. I am planning on selling off one more milking doe which will put me down to 6 which is fine for me.

The kid pen looks so empty now but it feels nice not to have the HONKING huge wethers in there. And selling off that problem milker, what a relief! She wasn't horrible to handle and had pretty good stand manners but she had a very nervous energy and was nasty to everyone else in the herd. Same doe that had scar tissue in her udder and I have two doe kids on the ground out of her, I felt too many strikes against her and I have her blood in the herd so I was happy to see her go.

Feeding time in the pens are much smoother and I anticipate milking this evening to go smoother as well. This doe even though she came into the herd as a 4yr old attempted to boss my herd queen around, picked on the other younger does and just was a nuisance. She always tried to push to the front during milking time (no matter that she was the last to come out EVERY time).

Doing the happy dance today! .

Justine

Congrats, Justine. I hope I can get some of my babies moved out soon...

I did take a milker to the salebarn that was driving me batty, and that has helped milking time be a little calmer! She was a yearling with an ugly udder and LOUD. Plus, she would be constantly trying to dive through the fence and just ticking off all the other milkers...poor thing didn't really have any friends in the herd.

I am hoping to move out some more of my kids, and then I can work on culling down the milking herd a little bit. 13 is still a lot! Especially when I think of all the keeper does that will freshen next year as well.

It's a great feeling eh Justine?
One year we took 13 kids to sale barn + a dippy back yearling. Came home to seeing daylight at the hay rack & a nice check.

That is such a nice feeling. We kept a few bucks to grow out a little before they go in the freezer. It will be SO nice when that time comes. A few does are gonna get weeded out this year too. Should make things a lot nicer this fall.

It really is a nice feeling though my kid pasture looks so empty . I will have to actually mow it this summer because there is no way they will keep up with the growth. But that is a good problem in my book .

I took the extras down to my local auction and I got comments on how big my kids where for 8 weeks .

All my keeper kids, it looks so empty. But I tell you bottle feeding tonight was so easy and unstressed. Also with that doe gone milking was very low key and everybody was in a good mood. No stressed does or anxious does just calm and easy going.

Makes life so much more enjoyable when things go smooth .

Gosh what a difference this morning in the herd. All the does where so much calmer without the problem doe in the pen. My 2yr olds where not as worried and even my herd queen and her second in command where not as pissy as they have been.

I was shocked at how mean my two top does where getting but now I see it was a ripple effect from my problem doe's energy. And bottle feeding this morning...ah what a breeze that was .

Blame it on Susie! She made me . Seriously though I am enjoying having a long eared critter in the herd.
