You might be a homesteader if...

...You have a refrigerator on your front porch.

We just bought a big used fridge in great condition and I am so thrilled to be able to move the 5 gallons of milk and 7 dozen eggs out of the kitchen fridge! We debated about keeping it in the living room... but then there wouldn't be room for our current indoor poultry! Five turkey poults and a dozen chickens that are hatching out today.

Are you saying that there are people who keep their refrigerators some place besides the front porch? Well, you live and learn...

While I was walking across my back yard today, looking at the two trailers, the pile of firewood waiting to be split, the trash burning barrel, and one of the barns with our work buggy and hubby's ugly truck parked outside it..... I decided it's a working farm, not Martha Stewart's house.

I have a side-by-side fridge, small chest freezer, and large stand-up freezer all in the shop where I milk, other side of the barn.

Ours is in our living room. The chicks and ducklings hatch and brood in the "formal" dining room. Sometimes we have goats or calves in the kitchen. I used to be apologetic, but my kids friends think we have the coolest place. Adults are a little less enthusiastic. But I think they at least find it entertaining.
