Do you care for Nigerian Dwarfs differently than Nubians?

I mean I know they will probably eat a little less etc. but are there any important things I should know?
I'm getting my 1st ND shortly and want to be prepared!! I feel like a new goat Mom all over again.

I don't have standard goats, but I'm pretty sure care is the same -- just smaller quantities. Congratulations!

Some ND's can be REALLY easy keepers. LOL They WILL eat it if it's there, so don't feed too much cause they will stay until it's gone.

They can have BIG personalities for such a small goat. When we had our 2 nubs, one ND would keep them in line all the time. Kinda funny. Our ND bucks will take on the mini saanen that is 2x their size.

Are you getting a buck for mini nubians?

I don't care for either. I prefer alpines. (Lol... couldn't resist!)

Here he is punchie Our 1st Nigerian Dwarf

and our 2nd ND buckling will be here within a few days

Yep we are going to "make" some mini Nubians!

We plan to breed our new boy( out of MCH Lost Valley ML Asher VG & Munchkin Patrol Chloe) to Rose our doe who is the grandaughter of Nubilop Acres Scoobee Doo (She is here and an awesome doe!! http://nubilopacres.tripod.com/senior_does.htm & one of our best bucks from Nubilop lines that I'd have to look up the parrents to LOL )

Anyway all that to say I'm hoping that with this mix we'll end with some very nice hearty mini nubies in the future with lots of milk and good looks lol!!

It's all new to me though and I really have no clue about breeding to other types etc. so we'll see

I have noticed he has a lot of personality for a small goat lol!

mygoat maybe you ought to bring me one of those pretty alpines so I could see if i like them

We "made" a few mini nubians but the ears frustrated us. Look droopy at birth only to raise up 4-6 months later. They were cute though. Seemed to have more springs than either of the parent breeds though.

At least with mini saanens we don't have to deal with ears. Color can throw ya for a loop though. LOL

We are wanting to find a female saanen too ! Do you have pictures of your minis?!

Do the Nigies coring transfer to the Saanens?

We'll love whoever we end up with anyway even if their ears are goofy LOL

When we 1st got our 1st ND and didn't know any better we fed her sweet feed. We know now the extra molasses isn't good for any goat, it made her milk VERY SWEET. DH couldn't even drink it. We now feed a feed that is 12-14% with very little molasses and the milk is wonderful!

I don't have any recent photos of my mini saanens but here are some older ones. Niki and "Buddy" have stayed just as white, Moa has a bit of color now, and Lina has more of a white/gold color going on. Lina will be moving on this year. Need to get new photos of the babies from this year.
