Murphy's Law Strikes Again-Broken Leg

How come it seems when one things go wrong all the other things have to go wrong too?

My doe kid, who is spoken for, decided to climb into the hay feeder today. I came home and went out to feed, and found her stuck in the feeder, her leg stuck in an awful angle. I figured it was broken. Took her to the vet, and she has an epiphyseal fracture (fracture at the growth plate). He splinted it, and said luckily they heal quickly, but the fracture was pretty high up, so hopefully it'll stay immobilized enough to heal. I'm supposed to bring her back in 2 weeks and we'll remove the splint.

I've got to call her future owner tomorrow and let her know what happened. I'm not sure if she'll still want her or not, but the goat *should* heal just fine, with no permanent issues.

Poor girl, she's very unhappy.

The vet was surprised to hear she's only 5 weeks, and said she's one of the nicest goats he's seen in a while. She was on her dam, but now I've decided to wean her onto the bottle, so I can keep her in a pen alone (but next to the other kids).

Oh, f'r Pete's Sake! If it ain't one thing, it's another! I hope the transition to bottle goes smoothly, and that she heals quickly, with no issues!

I know it...the car broke down today too!

Luckily her half brother is being totally bottle raised, so she's already stolen sips from his bottle. She drank well this afternoon when I feed her, thank goodness. Can't imagine trying to switch her over cold turkey, with a broken leg on top of that!

good lord... well I hope it all goes well for you and for her. Glad you've been able to switch her to bottle, I know that can be really difficult. She is really beautiful!

Would it be 'reverse Murphy's Law' if the buyer decides they still want to goat and that pays for the car repair?

Hope it works out for ya, hang in there!

Wouldn't that be awesome?!! Car is fixed, thanks to my mechanic hubby. One fewer thing to worry about!

Just wanted to update. Her splint was removed on May 16th, and she's doing great. The break had healed up firmly, so no movement of the bones. She's still on stall rest until this Friday. She goes to her new home in upstate NY on Sunday. She is so ready to get out of her stall!!
