Tick treatments?

We are new to goats and have our first two bottle babies.
As the weather warms up, I've found a few ticks in their pasture area. Nothing on them yet, but ....

I'm wondering about treatment/prevention options. Is it worth it to spread DE in their pasture pen and barn stall? Should I use a horse treatment down their back? Other ideas (besides guineas)?

Thanks

I've only had ticks on my goats a couple of times in the Ozarks. Perhaps they don't like goats?

There's a pour on product called Cylence for lactating cattle that you can use. It's available at most feed stores.

I don't get them on mine either - BUT I don't have a lot of woods near the pastures. I do know of a few boer herds that get them. When we boarded horses they would get them too - you can use a tick spray or make something yourself - I used apple cider vinegar with a few drops of tea tree oil, citronella, and eucalyptus oil. Spray in on every day for the first week so it gets into their coat good, and then spray on just once or twice a week after. Worked for the horses anyway.

In my 12+ years owning goats I've only ever found one tick crawling on a goat and removed one other barely attached from an ear. Even during some REALLY bad tick years for the dogs/ourselves, the goats go untouched. I wouldn't worry.

I have picked a handful off our does. I just pick them off......
We have been using cylence for the flies the last year so I'm
not sure if it's helped or not.

The ticks are awful here every summer. For the last 5 years, I've used Permectrin II, mixed 2.5cc to a quart of water and sprayed down each goat's top line once a month. It's worked well.
