CAE Positive

Got our results today from Biotracking on our 3 Nubian does. One is positive and others negative. Not great news but don't have to start completely over so we being positive about it. The one that is negative is due to kid by next Monday. We kicking around the idea of pulling baby and nursing it. Looking for opinions on pros and cons of this. We have very flexible lives so I know we could handle it. Any advise would be great. The others % was 0 and the one was 84%. Guess that's good, right?

Is the positive doe bred? You can be there at the birth and then pull them and raise them. You'll need a colostrum replacement, or take your chances with pasteurizing the colostrum from the positive doe, which I'd be very hesitant to do. I have a positive doe, and have used colostrum from negative does, or colostrum from a local cow dairy (Johnnes tested negative).

I'm sorry the one was positive though. Have you vaccinated recently? That can cause a false positive.

Some folks love bottle feeding kids. Some don't. I don't.

If the doe is negative, let her raise her kid.

Dispose of the positive doe.

Sorry, I wrote wrong. The positive doe is the one close to kidding. No, they have had not shots in a year or so. Thanks.

Did you mean that the one that is Positive is due to kid?? That is why you want to pull the kids? I would do it if you can be there at the second of birth, pull the kid immediately...no licking, etc., give the kid colostrum replacer (I would never use the positive doe's colostrum...heat treating it would not guarantee anything) and then raise the kids on a bottle. Good luck! Sorry about the doe.

Are the chances good that the kid will be ok being fed store colostrum? We are new to this all so worried about the survival rate for doing this. Thanks

We have used some from Hoegger one time only....it worked great...no problems at all. I would certainly do it again with high hopes that it was not just a fluke.

We used package colostrum for about 3-4 yrs before we tested. This is what we used. http://www.jefferspet.com/bovine-igg.../LIV/cp/72-A1/
No problems with any of the kids and the last year we fed that and heat treated colostrum, no difference in who has gotten sick and who has not.
Others have reported good success with this one http://www.jefferspet.com/kids-choic...LIV/cp/AGI-K1/

See if you can find someone with frozen colostrum NOW. Of course, make sure you trust them. And I would still attempt to heat treat it. Then raise the doelings (see what I did there) on whole milk. Good luck.

Got the doe kid from mamma with no contact to her. Do we need to milk the mamma? Even though she being disposed of on Monday we don't want her to be sick or uncomfortable. Thanks

Yes, if you don't want her to be uncomfortable, milk her.

Yes, milk the mom, being careful to not contaminate anything that comes anywhere close to other goats, particularly the baby's bottle.
