Frosted Mini Goats 2014 Kidding Season
Well, we have been busy around here! I have 11 does in milk with 2 more to freshen any time, 1 due in a couple weeks, and 1 due in June. One of those 11 kidded in November, but everyone else has been this year. We have had 12 bucks and 9 does born...the bucks were way ahead at first, but does are catching up some now. If you count the November kidding, I've had 13 bucks and 11 does born. You can see pictures of all the babies and what I have for sale on my website in my signature line. All the Nigerians are sold for this year (although we have one milker that may be for sale), but we have lots of nice mini alpine doelings and one super nice buckling--his brother shipped to Indiana; my first goat flight and it went very well. I also have an adult buck for sale (well, 2 of them, but I think there is a deposit on the way in the mail for one). Anyway, babies and moms are all doing very well, and everyone came out safely so far, knock on wood...I had a few repositions to do and one HUGE buck kid to help pull from a mini doe (9.6 lb kid from a 100 lb doe! His twin was 7.8 lbs!), but nothing too difficult.

Nancy, with all the kidding and bad weather and other stuff...did I miss it, aren't you having a child, too? If not, please forgive me...old, you know. Anyway, you should have a child...that first one is a definite WINNER! Congrats on all the rest...you are quite the busy young woman!

Busy Busy!!! Do you have extra milking hands come time to take a day or two off
when baby comes?
Our little guy came in the month of june, we had 3 in milk. I was fine after he came (in fact enjoyed the time out to the barn) but for about 3 days before I was miserable!
Hang in there!!!!

My husband milks now and then and did a lot of milking when my daughter was born as I was anemic and hardly had energy to nurse her and walk around the house, let alone milk the goats! So, he will do the milking...I still need to find someone nearby that can milk for me while I am in labor. Have 3 people who have milked for me in the past, but not this many before! FIL, who I hate asking to do anything, a gal up the road who I've paid to milk, but takes a long time, and that was only with like 2 or 3, and then my milk tester, who is very sweet and has milked several times for me going out of town, but has a lot on her plate as well, with a husband with brain injury & dementia as well as her own dairy herd! My super helpful goat friends live 45 mins away, so quite the jaunt, so not sure if either of them would be available! We shall see.

Cream had a single buckling...she dragged out labor until 2:30 am just to give me that! Thanks a lot girl. That is 14 bucks, 10 does. I have one more due in 10 days, then one more in June. I have 3 dry does I was thinking about doing an out-of-season breeding on, but I think I may just breed them for very early kids next spring...still undecided, but I think I need a bit of a break from feeding baby goats sometime this year!
