Sally's last chance

Sally is in heat yet again this weekend, right on time... The problem is that this is the 5th (plus an AI attempt) time she has been serviced this fall/winter.

AI was 10/4. Fine, that didn't take - it's far from guaranteed.

After that, she went into heat 12/1, 12/14, 1/9, 1/26, and now 2/16. She had a heat between 10/4 and 12/1, but I was attempting to get them over to a different buck so held off breeding her. Didn't end up working out anyways. :P The heat 12/1 was a lute heat that arrived late (was supposed to arrive on 11/30.)

That's 14d, 26d, 17d, and 21d between heats. The last two are more regular and the first two could have been wonky due to lutelyse use.

Either way, I'm moving my buck back to the buck pen this weekend. I don't want August kids. Heck, I didn't want June or July kids (which I'm getting again this year... ugh).

She'd be a 2nd freshener. Peaked at 10lbs last year. I was so pleased with her milking ability last year. I'm always inclined to take them to the sale barn but she may just be cystic from the lute use and CIDR use. Either way, I'm not getting her bred this year if she doesn't take on this breeding.

I had to use cystorelin to clear up my short cycling MiniMancha.
GoldenWood Farm and nehimama like this.

She short cycled early on probably due to lute, but hasn't since... Either way if I gave cystorellin she'd be bred in March (if she keeps cycling) and thats August babies. No thanks. July is bad enough. :P

Give her the cystorelin now, if you just bred her!

She would've been bred yesterday, possibly into today - cystorellin works after breeding?

Ugh. I hate getting meds from vets. I don't have it on hand.

I would give her an antibiotic series in case something is "lurking" within, then wait until the fall to breed.

We did have a DIFFERENT doe here who had a spontaneous abortion 8 weeks pre-kidding. Vet, previous owner, and I all would bet money it was not contagious as none of the other goats here or at the previous owner ever aborted and it was a bit earlier than expected for contagious abortions (though they admittedly *can* occur at any time). The doe also aborted last year. We have since sent her to meat auction.

Still to be safe everybody here already had a tx with antibiotics. Sally included. She shouldn't have anything 'lurking' at this point.

She likely won't stick around for a whole season doing nothing. :P I will likely sell her cheap with papers or send her to the auction.

Our goat that had quints 2 years ago today hasn't gotten bred since.

Which is really OK other than she has great milk because we accidentally found out she is an incredible pack goat last September. She is a majorly cranky goat so the fact she is pleasant and not trying to ram you going down the trail is amazing LOL You'd think she was trained for packing but shes hasn't been
