Yes, those are cotyledons. Attachment sites to the uterus. The more of those, the more nutrition the kid receives from his placenta. That's also the reason why the more kids, the smaller the size of each kid (usually) - there is only so much space for connections, and the kids have to share. Big kids get more connection sites, small kids get fewer. Multiples have to share the surface area of the uterus. If some get less than others, that's your runty triplet or quad that's smaller than the rest.
