Spotted Placenta?

Had a doe kid this morning - three big, healthy bucks. Great! The weird part being her placenta (see picture below). I remember seeing this once before - when Bessie (the doe) was born. However she was a twin & they were born early and pretty small which at the time I blamed on the weird placenta, just figured they weren't getting much nutrition, couldn't support a full term pregnancy (was the dam's first & only kidding), etc. But this time with 3 healthy bucks almost a week past due I can't really believe that anymore. Unfortunately no one took a good look at Bessie's placenta last year to know if it was the same. One other tidbit that may or may not mean anything is that Bessie test positive for CAE via the antibody test (haven't done the more technical one, kids are being raised with CAE preventive methods). Can only guess her dam was also positive, that was before we started testing. Thoughts?

Cotyledons !! What attaches the placenta to the uterus. Looks pretty normal to me.

Yes, those are cotyledons. Attachment sites to the uterus. The more of those, the more nutrition the kid receives from his placenta. That's also the reason why the more kids, the smaller the size of each kid (usually) - there is only so much space for connections, and the kids have to share. Big kids get more connection sites, small kids get fewer. Multiples have to share the surface area of the uterus. If some get less than others, that's your runty triplet or quad that's smaller than the rest.

Wow, so I just googled goat placenta's - how did I miss this in all the years of having goats?! I always thought they were flat sheets like a human's for some reason...

Flat sheets like a human's? I've never seen flat placentas from anything, lol

Is the picture above... is that a stretched placenta with light shining on it? My eyes are being weird with me, I can't tell what I am looking at. My goat placentas were always just huge globs. I guess I never exactly inspected them though?
