Not eating

Betty, my lamancha cross who will be two in July, is acting very weird. She wasn't eating that much this morning, and tonight she would only eat her hay. She's yawning, stomping, swinging her head back every now and then, and is being scardey. She could be pregnant and due sometime around now, but I assumed she wasn't because she never developed an udder.

She's really fat, and all of this would make me think she was in labor. But no ligament change, no udder whatsoever, and her vulva is as tight as could be.

What could this be?

You say that she is big...Is she abnormally big? Has she been this big for an extended period of time? Have you checked her temp?

The udder doesn't usually fill out until a few weeks before kidding.

I'd give her a large B vitamin injection, check her temperature, check her eyelids, and give her a big spoonful of baking soda, mixed with a little water to make a clump.

She's been fast for three months. I thought she was pregnant for that reason, but no udder. They are worked regularly and is not bloat because she is just as fat as normal. I will give her baking soda just in case though. Thank you

Wouldn't have anything to do with the baking soda, she's just contently chewing on hay.

She has that very wide eyed, spacey, what the heck look, lol.

Wide eyed.... *could* be iodine deficiency. If you have any iodine, paint the hairless underside of her tail with it. If it absorbs in an hour or so, repaint.

I only have the 7 percent iodine for dipping. Will try that though.

I think so. She was eating a little and was being the SWEETEST thing. Ligs are a little harder to find... hmmm. I've been checking for ligs just in case. We are dosing her with Vitamin B today.
