diapers???

I have a doeling buyer who is wondering about what SIZE of diaper to buy for an avg sized nubian doeling? (she will be 2 1/2 wks) when they pick her up... since she's going to be a house kid, until warmer weather. they want to use a diaper to her more house freedom.. since I've never diapered one.. (BUT... know some of you have) where better to ask, than this group of crazy goat ladies???

size/brand/how to put them on.. tail hole? no tail hole?

thanks bunches
susie

we tried them on our dwarf buckling, he never really took to them... we did small ones.... we have a hospice thrift store and picked up a pack there for $1 so it was the smallest of what they had.... No tail hole.....

I have found that by going by their weight works well. Put the diaper on backwards so the tabs fasten on their back. And I use masking tape to secure. Tail hole depends on the day...I do like seeing their little tails a wagging but keeping their tail out requires more tape and it does make removing the diaper a little more difficult, but again...tape around the tail makes removing the diaper more difficult for the goat too. Almond Joy the mini nubian is shaped differently in the hips than her mini saanen buddy so she can get her diaper off by just playing when it has been weighed down with pee. The tape around the tail helps keep it up.

If they want to go all out...gdiapers work extemely well on goats and don't require tape. You can get disposable inserts for them or just use overnight incontinance pads. A full size breed would be in a large for several months. A small fit my nigi unti she was 3 months, and my minis are in mediums. The waist is elastic so there's a greater size range they fit.

I made a goat diapering photo tutorial thread last summer. If I find it I'll bump it if you want

Here's the link. I didn't ever use a disposable on Gemini because I have sooooo many small (really girly) gdiapers but I use sposies on Peachy and Almond Joy most of the time because I only have a couple mediums in the new style (old style does NOT work on goats. Lol)

You put a disposable on using the same technique, but backwards and cut the tail hole a few inches above the fold. Just a little slit. Tape the tail first or you'll loose it inside the diaper the second they start wagging it!

They do realize that the cold weather will not harm a baby, don't they? I also hope they are getting more than one as they are herd animals. If they have 2 babies & keep them in a draft free area, they will be fine.

I couldn't imagagine diapering a goat!

I screen my buyers well. She is going to an excellent loving home ( with other goats) They... as a family... (2 adults / 4 children) have made the decision to raise her in their home. Surrounded by human family.... Different strokes different folks. If they want her to be a house goat while she's still on a bottle. I say more power to them. ( wish all my buyers bought with this much fore thought. Excitement and love in their hearts. What is a farm animal to some is a much loved pet/family member to others) This is NOT the only HOUSE kid I am selling this year

Having had 2 chickens freeze to death while they stood eating by the feeder and another who's feathers froze to the ground while she was taking a nap....not risking my much more valuable baby goats out there at night right now.

The one that was diapered in the summer was because she was previously dam raised and wild as a March Hare. Letting her bond to me and get used to a bottle before she met the grown ups was the best solution I could think of....and since she was a bottle baby she had to go with us when we went out of town so she was diapered.

Besides, it's sort of hillarious that they love my dogs and learned from them how to "sit","lay down", and play dead when you yell "BANG!"

The lady we got our dwarf buckling from would give him house time from early on (he was dam raised) to keep him socialized and friendly with people.... it was how she kept him continent inside...

Hot Pants for bitches ok somehow that doesnt feel right saying that on HT but thats what they are, they already have a tail hole and are washable, you can get them with disposable or reusable pads.
