we have babies coming soon
Our Toggenburg Cutie Pie is due anytime now. This afternoon I noticed she seems to be loosing her mucous plug. This is our bottle raised orphan. Her mom was our first dairy doe and died when Cutie Pie was quite small. This is the 1st animal of any type my hubby has ever seen born, bottle raised, and is now expecting her own babies. She is super special to us. This yr we are in a brutal cold snap and so we have had her locked inside our metal Quonset in a large chain link dog kennel. We lined the outside of kennel with tarps and left the door area uncovered for vent. I have deep bedding mix of shavings covered in straw over the cement floor. I have a heat lamp hung inside where she can't reach. I hope the babies don't freeze. I don't have anyplace warmer for her other than the house! The plan is to bottle raise the babies and milk Cutie as our other doe is dried off now. When we pull the babies I can keep them in a crate in the laundry room but having a momma give birth inside is a bit much.
