Confession
Our original plan when we moved to "the country" in the spring of 2011 was to have TWO dairy goats for milk. In 2012 we purchased two does but added the baby of one of the girls so momma would "stay in milk" while we learned. That fall we loaded the 2 does in the van and drove them to their date with the buck.
In February 2013, we "justified" purchasing a bottle baby buck so that we could breed the 3 does in the fall. (He stayed with us in the house until our kids were born so that he wasn't lonely.) A month later the two girls gave us 6 kids ... 4 doelings and 2 bucklings. We were able to sell the girls, we wethered one of the boys to be a companion, and we tried unsuccessfully to sell the other buck.
Yesterday, we purchased another doe in milk so that we have milk while we wait for the original 3 girls to deliver. Of course, we "justified" this addition because our 1yo grandson and youngest son don't tolerate cow's milk well.
We now have SEVEN goats. The babies haven't even been born yet this year.
We confess we are addicted. This year we will name the new kids after chips ... Ruffles, Lays, Pringles, Doritos ... because you can't have just one.
