Problem with eye

When I went out to check on the goats this evening, I noticed that my Saanen has something going on with one of her eyes. She does not want to open it very much and the light seems to bother it. I did not notice it a few hours ago when feeding, although I suppose it is possible. It's hard to tell if it's red or inflamed because she won't open it much at all.

I left it alone for the night and turned off all the lights in the barn except one small one. What would you do? My plan is to examine her in the morning and if she still does not want to open it, put some triple abx ointment on it.

Thoughts? I figure she may have scratched it somehow, but I really don't know. Otherwise acting normal.

In the morning, pull the lids open and have a good look underneath in all directions. She may have something in it (which also could have scratched the cornea). If something is there, remove it, obviously. I would then flush with some saline to clean it up a bit, and apply the triple antibiotic eye ointment 2-3 times a day. If it is still light sensitive in a day or two, or if you just want to go ahead and put a patch on it, it can help make her more comfortable. If the eye gets worse, or doesn't start showing improvement in a few days, see a vet as you don't want her to lose her vision.
