Kidding day, round two.

DW got home a little before 4:00 this afternoon, and Susie's twins were doing fine.
Then she went out to check the other round ladies, and Sallie ran out to the gate with the others, expecting to be fed. Then DW heard a faint maaaaa! Sallie has twins also, this time a buckling and a doeling!
They were mostly dried off, but hadn't been born long enough to suckle. I hotfooted it home after getting the call, and we got Sallie and her kids into the same enclosed barn room where Susie is. Pictures will be along soon.

Sallie was more interested in eating than seeing to her little ones, though. And she did NOT want to stand still and let us massage the first colostrum down. Apparently she is seriously ticklish underneath (rarely lets us touch her anywhere but her back at the best of times). We finally saw the buckling nurse, but have not yet seen the doeling do so, although she is up and walking around, and crying a lot.

We are NOT wanting bottle babies! We both work day jobs in town, and for sure my building would not like barnyard animals, even the cutest baby goats, inside their building.

So I'm really, REALLY hoping that the doeling gets to nurse. we'll check again shortly.

Oh, these kids are very definitely Jack's offspring - all black & white, and bigger. Doeling was 4#1oz, and the buckling was 4#6oz.

Well, I've heard they need colostrum within 4 hours of the birth to absorb all the nutrients, so I would really try hard around now!

Good luck! Sounds like they are cute.

You are going to need to spend some time out there to make sure the doeling has nursed. She needs it ASAP if not sooner.
Tie Sallie up short while one of you guides doeling to the groceries.
Make sure her teats are not plugged.
Tickle her little bottom as mama would.

Guide her by pushing her rear. Don't try to guide her head. Confuses them.

Just checked. She's laying next to mama and brother, looking around alertly and not crying at all. Pretty sure she's eaten.

Doeling has more white on her, buckling is closer to the camera.
Still cogitating on named.

Colostrum is too important to just be "pretty sure" that she got some. Better keep a close watch and make sure that baby gets plenty to eat!

I'm still new at this, but others have said check to see if her belly is round as full.

We have both witnessed each kid nursing on the correct dam today.
Both of Wild Child's doelings appear to have blue eyes.

Sox is still round as ever, with no kids yet at last bed check tonight.
