Question Pavlab? Any one?

I saw this lab mentioned in another thread...
Here's their link
http://pavlab.com/pavlab/diagnostic-...ces-for-goats/

Any exp? Their prices seem very reasonable and instructions are
very clear cut on their page.

Thoughts, concerns, criticism?

Thanks

I use them for my initial test, but when testing another herd we had some come up with weak positives for CAE,sent to washington and they can back negative. I think they are the most reasonable, but they did get a bad rep I think in the past because just in the past few years they started the ELISA testing method.
Not to mention the guy that runs the lab will give you a curtsy email or call if you request him to do so once the testing is done.

I used to use PanAm for everything. I switched to Bio-tracking for my CAE tests because they give you a tither reading / score (so you know where your goats counts are at and can track them better). PanAm doesn't. They do however offer CAE test on colostrum samples. Dr. Glass is prompt and polite in my experience, and often helpful in explaining test results, however I have received reports back with errors on them before - but they were quickly corrected.

The guy there is very nice and helpful. He answered emails and phone calls. I don't think it's a very big operation. But I don't know that. Just the impression I got. I tested 18 goats. Had two come back borderline. Sent those two to WADDL and they were negative. The price was right and customer service was great. Even answered emails on the weekends. That's one of the things that gave me the impression that this operation is out of someone's basement and is a second income. I could be totally wrong and that doesn't hurt anything anyway.

The one time we tried the colostrum cae testing.. We'll lets just say it was a total waste of time. Sent in 8 or 9 samples. (From does I knew were neg. sending was more of a test of the test... Had been hearing how unreliable they were)... We'll that was proven to be true. Results showed either 4 or 5 as cae positive.. We drew blood that day and sent to bio tracking ALL of them came back not only neg, but with low low numbers 0s and 1s. They are now old retired does who still test neg via bio tracking

I have heard TONS of people talk about false positives from there through the years. Myself included with false CL positives/borderlines. My herd is abscess free and has always been, and they retested negative many times since then through WADDL. I'd hate to think people cull on the basis of their tests. They are less expensive but I would not use that lab. If I were a buyer of yours, I'd ask to send out blood on animals I was interested in to WADDL to double check, as I don't trust PAVL results.

It is a very small lab and I like the man who runs it... Bob Glass also developed a pasteurella vaccine for rabbits that has promising beginnings and I plan on using it in the near future myself... but, it does not appear to be an AAVLD accredited testing facility and I have heard repeatedly bad things about the goat diagnostics work though the years... Perhaps it has improved since I used them last probably in like 2008 ish? I'd have to check my records. I stopped using them when I had a CL positive test twice on an animal I knew was neg, and resent to WADDL for multiple successive neg results and she has stayed abscess free as has the rest of my herd.
