So where did the goat go?

We have friend who live in our small town. They have moved to another small town about 20 minutes away to be closer to his job. They sold all of their livestock except for one buck. They thought they had a buyer but that fell through last minute. They've been coming down daily to check on him and to feed and water him.

This morning their barn burned.

He was not housed in the barn. He is housed in a little pen outside of the barn but surrounded by straw bales. They don't know what happened to set the barn on fire-maybe a rat chewed a wire and that sparked some straw?

But now they can't find the goat. He's never gotten out of the pen in the past year or so. There's not much left but timbers and he's not in the ruble.

So can goats jump a fence that's about 5 feet high? If so, would he run off? His little lean-to is still up. Would he come back to that? I suggested putting food and water both in and outside of the pen. Anything else they can do?

Thanks!

I say he was spooked & ran off. Sorry your friends lost their barn. I think a 5 ft fence could be doable if they wanted out.

He was found under one of the timbers.

Tragedies are devastating. Sorry to hear about your friend and the goats.

Is it possible that the police/fire dept were told the owners had moved? Maybe they thought he was abandoned and they took him.
