greatest idea for cleaning winter water Buckets!!

A new toilet brush!! Got them down to the barn this year & they are working Great! No more putting my hands in water then wet skin out in the bitter cold!
Hate to say it but it was hubby's idea!

Not a toilet brush, but I keep a kitchen sink type brush hanging on the barn close to the hydrant. I use it to clean the goats' buckets, the dog's water dish, and the chicken waterer.

I have always used a kitchen brush, but I bet a toilet brush has a longer handle. Good thinking!

We've always used an old sturdy toilet brush. It has a cut out part on the end of the handle so it can be hung on fence.
Toilet brushes nowadays are cheap & the bristles start falling out after a month or so.

Nancy your way ahead of me, I always had freezing cold, chapped hands in the winter but not anymore!
We bought the round one's not the old fashioned kind with the hole at the end. They have a hole in the handle though for hanging & Yes they have a long handle so great for those deeper, bigger goat buckets.

This is, indeed a great idea... I can suggest one slightly better idea. There are rubber bristled toilet brushes at www.flylady.net They last forever, and do a super job getting surfaces clean. I use them for pottys and also have pet bowl dedicated ones.

You mean this one? http://shop.flylady.net/pages/FlyShop_rubba_swisha.asp

Wonder what kind of rubber it is? If it's silicone it would be awesome as it would hold up to all temps...but I'm guessing it's not because they recommend not to use the highest settings on the dishwasher and most silicone is good to 500 degrees F.

I use a large nylon bottle brush on my waterers, buckets and stock tank.

I've been using Apple Cider Vinegar in the water buckets to keep them clean much, much longer.

Still there have been times when I've had to get my hands wet and cold to clean them. The long-handled brush is a great idea. Thanks for sharing Katie. (Am looking at those urls Aart and Mainelyhappy gave us too.)

hmm.. Guess I'm too cheap. I just yank off a hunky branch or two of hemlock and scrub away. Makes the bucket all piney fresh smelling - and the goats would be happy to eat "the brush" after I'm done with it (if I let them).

I just make em drink it down low or pour most of the water out and scrub with a scrub brush I bought for like bathroom stuff, but with a longer handle.

Well I used my bare hand & snow to scrub out the chickens electris dish yesterday! Time for another toilet brush up by the chickens since they aren't close to the barn!
