Yesterday Beverly was bagged up, and ligaments loose. But since her bag was not tight or shiny, I would have thought that she had a couple more days' wait. Except that she seemed to think she was ready, and hung back near the barn, away from the other goats, all afternoon.
I checked on her before I went to bed, and she still was not in active labor, though she still appeared tentative.
I left her where I wanted her to kid, and went on to bed.
At about 1:15 I woke up and went out to check on her. I found her standing on the east side of the coop fussing over one baby. I thought there should be more, so I cast the light around and found two more on the other end of the coop. They were still wet and cold, and one looked quite lifeless. So that's the one I started rubbing with the towel first.
Before I came back in for the night, I had them all dried up and iodined, and at least a little colostrum in them all. The stronger two did very well, but I wasn't able to get very much into the limper one. He was, however, standing when I came back in.
This morning they were all up. The one that had been weak drank a few ounces from a bottle, and the other two were apparently already full.
Looks like they'll all make it. Two bucks, one little doe. I'd like to put the doe on a bottle and let the bucks have the teats, but that's not the way they have it figured. The doe was nursing well straight away. And looks like that weaker buck will be the bottle baby.
