abcess on rear

I haven't been on in what seems like forever, but this is the most reliable place I know to ask.
I was helping a neighbor & checking to see what goats I thought were ready to be pinned up for kidding. Lifted a VERY pregnant does tail & there is a blister about the size of my finger tip by her anus. No other sores present, just the one.

Not my goat but makes me so nervous since I know she will push those babies out by the end of the week! Suppose to get into the teens & ice storm coming Thursday Friday, so counting on her to deliver then.

Sorry I didn't snap any pics, and didn't make it over there today. As of now she hasn't kidded. According to my friend the sore looks the unchanged.

I don't think I'd be overly concerned. From your brief description, it seems more like what you called it (a blister) than a full-blown abscess.

I'd keep an eye on it. Keep it clean; if it pops, dress it with some triple antibiotic.

I do hope it is nothing & I get a phone call saying healthy babies arrived soon. Thanks for the reply.

I called it, sometime in the middle of the night she kidded & delivered a doe & buckling. The buckling didn't make it, but neighbor says the doe is doing well. It was 2 degrees here this AM, of course she couldn't deliver earlier this wk when it was 70!!!!

Wish I had pics to share, but I haven't been over there myself yet. Managing my own crew in the snow & ice is enough!
